Hacksaw Ridge (2016)

This movie was a well executed telling of the story of a brave hero. It was raw and in your face about the cost of our freedom. I fully respect and greatly admire that during the first battle scene and the longest shot was done without any instrumental background music. This just let you experience what the soldiers did without any sugar coating. As the film goes on it adds in music lightly until the final scenes where Doss has finally given the members on his team hope and they finally secure Hacksaw Ridge. Good mix of humor, action, romance, suspense, and true heroism. Go Andrew Garfield!

CHARACTERS: Desmond Doss (Andrew Garfield) – the heroic medic Teach (Richard Pyros) – the teacher James Pinnick (Jacob Warner) – the young one Lucky Ford (Milo Gibson) – the commander

SUMMARY: “World War II American Army Medic Desmond T. Doss, who served during the Battle of Okinawa, refuses to kill people, and becomes the first man in American history to receive the Medal of Honor without firing a shot.” – IMDB Summary

Overall, beautifully filmed, outstanding acting, and respectful directing. The videos at the end make the film seem extremely genuine and makes you respect Desmond Doss even more knowing most of the events in the film actually happened. This film definitely deserves its Oscar nomination and is another story that needed to be told (who knows why we haven’t heard of him before now). Definitely recommend!
