Classic Disney at it’s best. Such an engaging story told with some extremely fun music. Great characters paired with a tale from long ago takes every person, no matter age, back to their roots. As another Disney princess once said – “Well it’s my favorite! Far off places, daring sword fights, magic spells, a prince in disguise!" What else do you need?
CHARACTERS: Aladin (Scott Weinger) – the diamond in the rough Genie/Peddler (Robin Williams) – the hyper genie with cosmic powers Princess Jasmine (Linda Larkin) – the trapped princess Jafar (Jonathan Freeman) – the power hungry consultant Abu/Cave of Wonders/Rajah (Frank Welker) – the monkey friend/the lion cave/the pet tiger who’s a good judgement of character (also this voice actor is epic) Iago (Gilbert Gottfried) – the chatty sidekick Sultan (Douglas Seale) – the loving father who means well
SONGS: Arabian Nights – the intro to the story that leads into on of the best monologues ever One Jump Ahead – the introduction to Aladdin himself Friend Like Me – the big Genie intro Prince Ali – the big showpiece A Whole New World – the swoony travel/love song
SUMMARY: “A kind-hearted street urchin and a power-hungry Grand Vizier vie for a magic lamp that has the power to make their deepest wishes come true.” – IMDB Summary
Overall, if you haven’t watched it you are really missing out. Robin Williams did 16 hours of ad-libbing and they made a masterpiece. DEFINITELY recommend!
